Eyal Golan
Eyal Golan hung out in nightclubs at sixteen, but he is now one of Israel's leading stars of Mizrachi music. Born 'Eyal Biton' on April 12th, 1971, Eyal grew up in Marmorek (Rehovot). After a crisis with his parents Ronit and Daniel, he moved in with his grandparents. According to a quote on the internet, his kindergarten teacher said that even in kindergarten he was "a very wild boy".Eyal got to know oriental music well when, during his adelescence, he went from one nightclub after another. When he was about sixteen years old, he started to perform in the nightclubs where he used to hang out. He became a mini-super star in those clubs. Eyal Golan has always admired Zohar Argov: he considers him the "King" of oriental music. In 1991, Golan made his first television appearance in a memorial service for Zohar Argov. As a result of this show Eyal became better known. His first album, "Whisper in the Night", appeared two years after the show (in 1993). Three years later, in 1996, he released another cd, "Live Performance." This album includes a few songs by Israeli singers like Rami Feinstein and Shlomo Artzi. These two first cds were not successful. But a year later, in 1997, Eyal suddenly made it big with this third album, "Without You". Most of the songs on this one were written and composed by Ze'ev Nehama and Tamir Kalinsi, members of the Ethnix band with whom Golan still performs. This cd sold over 120,000 copies and Eyal went platinum: it was the start of a brilliant career. Eyal plays soccer for Hapoel Marmorek. |
