Kol Nidre Serviceby Richard TuckerA classic rendition from 1959 of traditional melodies from the Kol Nidrei service reissued (improved). With compositions by Sholom Secunda and Yossele Rosenblatt. This cd includes introductions by Ben Irving, presenting the weight of the Kol Nidrei service with much dramatic feelling. Just like the chazanut from Richard Tucker himself, this will find both fervent fans and people who consider his performance lacked style. Richard Tucker (1913-75) was proud of his voice and his singing aimed to show off its strong points to the max. His open, powerfull and seemingly tireless voice made him the ultimate Verdi tenor of his time, or even the whole 20th century, to some. Others considered his sobs and gasps in mid-rendition styleless - whether he was singing opera or chazanut. Tucker was a religious man, proud of his Jewish heritage, and his recordings of Jewish religious music have become classics. During the last ten years of his life his fans travelled thousands of miles, even flying over from Europe, to hear his Kol Nidrei service in Chicago. His audience would include famous, non-Jewish opera singers. A preview: Almost 55 minutes of listening. Price $ 14.95 Tracks: 1. Kol Nidre 2. Ya-aleh 3. Koli Sh'ma 4. Ki Hine Kachomer 5.
